First Injury

Well, we made it back to the property and I, being the clutz I am, I suffered the first injury on site.  I was trying to check the water in the tractor and forgot to put the peg in the hood to hold it up.  It came crashing down on my left hand middle finger.  I didn’t know if I was going to puke or pass out, the pain was horrible.  I packed it with ice and pressed on with elevating the road.  It turned blue/purple immediately on othe the nail side and the underside.  John says I’m going to lose the fingernail.  It throbs like it has a tourniquet tied around it.

We started building the parabolic mirror

We started building the parabolic mirror for our steam generator yesterday.  Check out our website under “news” for pics and details.

We built a headboard!

John found an old dingy (approx 8 feet) on the side of the road and it was the beginning.  We wanted it to look like an old Chriscraft with the mahogany planks.  John built the bow insert and attached it to the boat.  I stained and sanded and stained and sanded until it glowed mahogany.  Then I added several coats of varnish until it shined.  John added the white caulking between the planks and it looked amazing!  We also covered the aft end of the boat with planking, creating a storage spot for pillows.  The bottom shelf is hinged and lifts up to reveal the storage compartment.  We built the background of the shelves to make it look like the old plank style of the bottom of a wood boat.  We added the shelves, we added a bow light (which looks cool shining on the ceiling.  We added anchor lights which are adjustable for reading and LED lights under the shelves which lights up the cool nautical stuff on the shelves.  We added our pirate paraphanalia and a mast with the parrot we got on our honeymoon!  John even hooked it to a remote control so we can turn it on when we walk in the room.  It came out awesome!

Shark Caught

John and his friend Josh entered a Shark fising Tournement and caught about a 7 foot lemon shark last night!  Check out the pics!

New Web Site Is up and running

I’ve been busy this week building our website
check it out at !

It is still a work in progress, but I’ve added some pictures under the News button on a project we are working on now.

Yard/Garage Sale

One of the issues we need to address is the fact that we have both accumulated a lot of STUFF! We are downsizing to a cottage that is going to be about 600 square feet from a 1400 square foot house. Whatever will not fit in the cottage will need to be stored indefinately or sold. So we are clearing out the closets, drawers, cabinets and garage and having a big yard sale. We did this a few months ago when we lost our jobs and it was actually more productive than we anticipated. We made over $350 for a few hours of work and I honestly don’t think we missed a thing we sold. If you are downsizing your living space, I strongly urge you to plan a yard sale. Put signs at all major intersections and post a lising on craigslist with your address and days and times. It’s also a good idea to list a few things you are selling when you post a listing, auch as “small kitchen appliances” “books” etc.

It can be boring, sitting there waiting for people to show up. I recommend a good book and a pitcher full of cocktails! One woman I met at a yard sale says when she has one, she always starts the day with a pitcher of bloody mary’s. NOW THAT SOUNDS LIKE A PLAN! Wish us luck!
