Dishwashing Alternatives

Let’s Talk Dishes

Tip #1 Do you like the Foaming Dishwashing Liquid or hand soap?

SAVE THE DISPENSER!  This is a no brainer!  This is a great way to reuse plastic and save a bunch of money!  I keep one in my bathroom and one in the kitchen.

  • 2-3 tablespoons Joy or Original Dawn or liquid hand soap
  • water

Add Joy, Dawn or liquid hand soap to dispenser.  Fill with water (slowly so you don’t get too many suds).  Replace top and pump!  How much did you pay for that?  It really works, it’s the dispenser that makes the foam, not the soap itself!  Since you only need two tablespoons of soap, you will make a large bottle last for a very long time and for the cost of one bottle of liquid soap, you’ll get more refills of your dispenser than you can count.  I’m estimating I can make 1 bottle of joy last at least a year.  You only need 1 or 2 pumps to get enough to wash a sink full of dishes and one pump to wash your hands.  I’m going to also try this in the shower with my body wash.  I need to make a trip to the dollar store and buy another foaming dispenser.

Although hand washing is better all around (saves energy) if you must use a dishwasher, you can make your own dishwasher detergent, too!

Tip #2:  Add white vinegar to your rinse dispenser

Distilled White Vinegar actually dissolves and removes soap scum and buildup from your dishes and from your dishwasher.  To clean the inside of your dishwasher simply pour in 1/2 cup distilled white vinegar and run it through a final rinse cycle (run it empty).
