Do you think you spend less than $50 on little things? Do you use your debit card instead of cash? I’d like to show you that you don’t realize how much you are spending and what you are spending it on. You need to commit to this for a week. You don’t have to change anything you do, but you do need to keep track of what you spend. Save all your receipts and at the end of the day, write them down. You will be amazed at how much you spend on a soft drink here, a cup of coffee, a snack, etc. I made a spreadsheet when we did this for a week and we were both shocked at how much we were spending on junk. I find it helpful to withdraw $20 in cash and keep it in my wallet. It is my “mad” money and I spend it how I like, but when it’s gone, it’s gone. Instead of using my debit card, I use my $20 and it can go pretty fast. I find I hold onto it longer and think more about spending it than I did when I just used my debit card.
