Easy Pastry Appitizers

EASY PASTRY APPITIZERS

Makes 48 Pastry Appitizers

  • 4 can Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
  • 1 package  Cheddar Cheese Filled Lil’ Smokies

Preheat Oven to temperature listed on Crescent Roll Can.

Open Crescent Roll can according to instructions and separate the triangles carefully.  Lay a Lil’ Smokie across the bottom of the triangle (the widest end, not the point end) and roll up.  Pinch ends together and pinch at point to close completely.  Lay on baking sheet and bake for 12-20 minutes until golden brown.  Serve with honey mustard, dijon mustard, spicy mustard, ketchup. BBQ sauce, sweet and sour sauce or your choice of dipping sauces.

Tip:  You can pre-roll these and keep in the refrigerator (cover with plastic wrap or keep in an airtight container with wax paper or plastic wrap between them to keep them from sticking together).  Remove from refrigerator when ready to bake.  These are best served warm, but I’ve heard they are still good even if they get cold.

VARIATIONS:

PROSCUITTO & CHEESE PASTRIES

  • 1 lb. thinly sliced Proscuitto
  • 1 lb thinly sliced Mozzarella Cheese

(It is best to get these in the deli and have them slice as thin as possible and still have it say together as a slice, the prepackaged cheese will be too thick)

  • Fresh Basil Leaves (washed and stems removed)
  • 4 cans Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
  • Garlic Butter (see below)

Preheat Oven to temperature on Crescent Roll Instructions

Make Prosciutto and Cheese logs (Lay one slice Prosciutto on flat surface and lay one slice Mozzarella on top and Lay Basil Leaves end to end (one row close to the edge).  Roll (from long side of slice) into a log and secure with toothpicks to keep rolled.  Open Crescent Roll can according to instructions and separate the triangles carefully.   Cut the Prosciutto logs into 1 inch pieces (it is easiest to do this one at a time by cutting one and rolling in pastry and then cutting another and rolling in pastry, etc.)  Place the log piece on the pastry (the widest end, not the point end) and roll up.  Pinch ends together and pinch at point to close completely.  Lay on baking sheet, brush with garlic butter and bake for 12-20 minutes until golden brown.  Serve with additional garlic butter, marinara, honey mustard, dijon mustard, spicy mustard, ketchup.

Other substitutions:

You can use thinly sliced smoked ham and swiss cheese instead of prosciutto and mozzarella.

USE YOUR IMAGINATION.  You could use turkey, chicken, and any cheese you desire.
